Michael Clark joined the Cirrus consulting team as a lead consultant in 2019, bringing 25 years of strategic HR and leadership experience. Here he shares his insights into working life at Cirrus.

What attracted you to Cirrus?

I was attracted by the opportunity to collaborate with experienced colleagues and exacting clients. Cirrus does not have a prescriptive approach. We dedicate a lot of time to understanding what the client needs and agreeing a solution together. I prefer to work that way.

What have you been up to since you started?

I’ve partnered with major clients on global programmes, developing learning solutions that are helping to drive significant transformation. As a lead consultant, I play a key role in ensuring we have the right people in place, in the right countries, to ensure smooth delivery of our solutions. Many of our larger programmes are constantly evolving and I work with clients and colleagues ensure that our programme design is not static but current and relevant to the client’s needs.

What are the best things about working at Cirrus?

There is a real depth of expertise here. We’ve done some great research and our CEO Simon Hayward’s books are highly respected. We have a lot of credibility. We don’t just trot out the same old stuff – there is a lot of fresh thinking alongside proven IP. And in addition to the subject-matter expertise, we have a strong collegial environment which is very ‘can-do’.

I also like the breadth of client relationships. We cover a lot of different industries. There’s a lot of variety here. If you thrive on variety, of tasks, of client contexts, then it’s a good place to be.

There is also a lot of room for individuals to take responsibility. As long as your decisions as well-founded and in the best interests of the client then you are trusted to follow through.

And, whilst it is not for everyone, Cirrus feels like a family. I have rarely met such tremendous loyalty from both former and current colleagues.

What have you found challenging?

Cirrus is fast paced with a strong focus on results. You need to be quite confident and resilient. You also need to be quite flexible, adaptable, and someone who thrives in a fast-moving environment.

Would you recommend Cirrus as a place to work?

For the right kind of person, definitely. In fact, I have recommended it recently. It’s a demanding but very rewarding place to work. We are very successful and without wanting to sound too cocky, I think we probably win the majority of the work we pitch for, which is great in itself, but added to that, we also know how to celebrate that success – which is vital in such a fast-moving environment.
