Cirrus Connections: Leadership & Reputation

by | Feb 8, 2012 | News

130 guests join Cirrus, Rolls-Royce and Tesco Bank

Cirrus welcomed 130 enthusiastic leaders from many of the UK’s most prominent organisations to Simpson’s-in-the-Strand in London on 1st February. Together we explored the theme of ‘Leadership & Reputation’ with two fascinating guest speakers: Kath Durrant, Group HR Director, Rolls-Royce, and Dave Buglass, Head of Tesco Academy, Tesco Bank.

Rolls-Royce and Tesco are esteemed market leaders, respected for their innovation, agility and growth. Excellent leadership is pivotal to the achievements of both organisations. Kath and Dave shared some real insights into how their organisations strive to develop leaders who uphold the reputations of their organisations. You can see Kath and Dave sharing some of these insights on film here.

At Rolls-Royce, where turnover is predicted to double in the next ten years, ‘Trusted to deliver excellence’ is the company’s central organising thought. It is a core element of Rolls-Royce’s external brand, and also of its internal employment value proposition. All of Rolls-Royce’s induction and development activity inspires people across the organisation to bring its brand promise to life. As a result, Rolls-Royce is a company people are proud to work for, and is renowned for delivering high quality products and customer service.

Tesco has two core values: ‘No one tries harder for customers’, and ‘Treat people how we like to be treated’. Leadership programmes at Tesco focus on the characteristics and behaviours leaders need to develop in order to uphold the company’s longstanding reputation for customer insight, innovation and quality. Leaders are encouraged to be inspirational, creative, agile and ready to embrace change.

Simon Hayward from Cirrus also talked about the importance for all organisations of developing a great leadership reputation based on trust. At Cirrus, we believe that organisations need to develop both leaders and leadership credibility to build trust and success. Authentic shared leadership, which is built on open and honest relationships, can engage and inspire people within and beyond the organisation.

Our guests enjoyed engaging in some lively debate and a question and answer session with our speakers. There was a real buzz in the room as new connections were made and learning shared.

We’d like to thank everyone who came along and helped to make this such a great event. Our guests described it as “wonderful”, “inspirational”,  “impressive” and “tremendously valuable”. We look forward to more lively interaction at our next Cirrus Connections event.
