CEO and HR director insights into connecting with customers over dinner in Edinburgh
Cirrus hosted a very special ‘Connected Leaders’ dinner with Standard Life in Edinburgh on Wednesday 9 September.
Our guest speakers were Paul Matthews, CEO, UK and Europe at Standard Life, and Nicky Riding, Standard Life’s People and Premises Director, UK, Europe and Group Corporate Centre.
We were delighted to welcome guests from a wide range of organisations including the CIPD, DWF, FirstGroup, Freshfields, Glasgow Airport, Lloyds, Mitie, National Australia Group, RBS, SSE, Tesco Bank and the University of Glasgow.
The venue was the stunning penthouse at the Hilton DoubleTree Conference Centre in central Edinburgh, overlooking the castle.
This was a great opportunity to learn, network and engage in discussion over a delicious dinner. Standard Life shared fascinating insights into creating a connected, customer-focused company and Cirrus shared highlights of our research into Connected Leadership.
Together we explored:
- How to develop a more connected, customer-centred organisation
- What Standard Life is doing differently to develop customer-focused culture and behaviours
- The importance of putting colleagues in customers’ shoes
- The power of disruption to ‘break’ processes in order to respond swiftly to customer needs
- Having the courage to actually act on difficult feedback, not just listen to it.

This was a highly interactive event. Guests took the opportunity to engage in Q&A with our speakers as well as discussion with fellow guests over dinner. Cirrus colleagues helped to facilitate this and draw out learning nuggets which we all shared.
